Soldiers’ Memorial Hall in Toowoomba Set for Multi-Million Dollar Make-Over
A major renovation of Toowoomba’s Soldiers’ Memorial Hall will proceed following the announcement of $2 million for the project under the Coalition Government’s highly successful Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

Federal Member for Groom John McVeigh joined Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio and Toowoomba RSL Sub-branch President Roland Thompson at the hall today to announce the funding and to celebrate the start of a much-anticipated upgrade to the iconic building.

“The Soldiers’ Memorial Hall has a very special place in the history of our community and it’s vital that we restore the building with the respect and dignity that it deserves,” Dr McVeigh said.

“The deteriorating state of the Soldiers’ Memorial Hall has been a source of great concern for our returned servicemen and women over many years; this funding will help breathe new life into the building, and ensure it continues to serve as a monument to our fallen and a place of support for current and ex service personnel from our region.”

Dr McVeigh said the Toowoomba Regional Council would also contribute two million towards the four million cost of the upgrade works.

“The initial stage will focus on maintenance and repair of the entire building as well as upgrading the existing facilities in the front portion of the building,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to ensuring Australia’s regions remain strong, resilient and prosperous in the long term.

“We are supporting our regions through investing in important local infrastructure, as well as great community-building and planning initiatives under the Building Better Regions Fund and other Government priorities such as the Regional Growth Fund and our decentralisation agenda,” Mr McCormack said.
