Funding Sucess for Darling Downs Swimming Association

The region’s swimmers will be put to the test with a new state-of-the-art timing system to be used at Toowoomba’s Milne Bay Aquatic Centre by members of the Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association.

Federal Member for Groom John McVeigh was poolside today, to announce funding for the Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association from Round 4 of the Coalition Government’s Stronger Communities Program.

“Hundreds of swimmers from around the region participate in club events and regional championships at this facility each year, and the roll-out of modern precise timing equipment will ensure more accurate and reliable records are kept of each athlete’s performance,” he said.

“The innovative timekeeping system, which will include touchpads in each lane, will replace the outdated system which still includes manual timekeeping.”

Dr McVeigh said the upgrade to facilities would also include improvements to the results display board.

“The funding will also be used to improve the display board, allowing for instant information regarding times and places achieved by the athlete, which will help swimmers, officials and spectators.”

Dr McVeigh said the Stronger Communities program provided much-needed support for local community organisations across the country.

“I am very proud to be able to support organisations in the Groom electorate like the Darling Downs Regional Swimming Association. Volunteers work tirelessly to support the region’s swimming clubs, and I am truly grateful for their important contribution to community life.”
