In great news for Darling Downs and South West region, Professor Jim Cavaye has been appointed as Chair of the Regional Development Australia (RDA) Darling Downs and South West Committee - a key advisory body to government in driving investment and job creation.
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh congratulated Professor Cavaye on the new role, and said his appointment would help drive regional growth and job creation in the community.
“Professor Cavaye’s broad leadership skills and subject matter expertise makes him a perfect candidate to lead the RDA and attract investment and jobs to the Darling Downs,” Dr McVeigh said.
“From Program Director in Regional Community Development at the University of Southern Queensland to his work in the Queensland public service, Professor Cavaye’s entire career has been focussed on developing rural, regional and remote communities.
Dr McVeigh said RDA committees are highly valued facilitators of initiatives that grow local economies, promote opportunities, attract investment and build capacity and confidence, and are key contributors to regional economic development.
“I speak from first-hand experience in saying that this kind of dedication – and passion – is essential in achieving strong outcomes within a dispersed community, and I look forward to working with Professor Cavaye in delivering for the community,” Dr McVeigh said.
“I would like to thank retiring Chair Cr Vic Pennisi for leading the RDA Darling Downs and South West, and for his great contribution since the committee was established in 2010.
“I would also like to thank the 500-plus volunteer board members that serve on our 52 RDA committees across Australia for their ongoing support.”
